About Us:

GHQ Training was established in 1992 to offer work-based training for trainees and businesses in the Plymouth and surrounding travel to work area. It is conveniently located in Plymouth city centre and is close to the bus station.

GHQ offers excellent facilities and support, backed by skilled and qualified trainers.

We are suppliers to the Learning & Skills Council to provide Apprenticeships, which are available to 16-49 year olds, and also have a long association with the Tamar Valley Consortium of schools.  This enables students from year 9 the opportunity to work towards or complete NVQ Qualifications while continuing with their GCSEs or A levels.

GHQ has been awarded the contract to deliver Train to Gain providing employers and employees with a flexible approach to learning.

Whilst much of GHQ's provision is for Apprentices, we also provide training for the Assessor and Internal Verifier Awards for trainers, Teaching Awards, as well as Management Qualifications.

We also deliver private and bespoke training to companies, designed around their current needs and requirements.  These include short courses in Customer Care, IT, Business Mentoring, Marketing, to name but a few.

We work with various businesses throughout Devon and Cornwall, which include:
  • No. 4 Hair Boutique
  • Future Inns
  • The Copthorne Hotel
  • National Marine Aquarium
  • Going Places Nursery
  • Woodford Rascals Nursery
  • Woodford Infants and Junior Schools
  • The Cutting Company
  • A Salon Called Fish

Customer Service and Administration

At GHQ we provide both on and off the job training for students working towards an NVQ in Business Administration or Customer Service.

Students attend GHQ Training for tutorials and one to one discussions with their assessor.  They discuss their competence and arrange workplace observations and assessments.

Management and Professional

We offer a flexible approach to achieving these professional awards suiting those with team leadership management roles.  Evening workshops in management core skills are organised to support learner development, while work based assessments are arranged in conjunction with employer and candidate schedules.

Following intitial assessment, an individual learning plan is negotiated with the learner, course tutor and employer.  Candidates must be in an appropriate job role to ensure qualification criteria are met.

GHQ offers professional, modern and up-to-date training salons using top quality products.  This enables our learners to develop their skills to become qualified and versatile hairdressers.  Training is delivered by qualified, knowledgeable and experienced hairdressers/trainers who keep their skills updated by attending frequent technical training seminars.

Attending GHQ for a weekly tutorial, practical and theory sessons, individuals will be able to develop and achieve the various assessment stages to progress through their training.  Our staff also regularly visit learners in their workplaces to assess their progress.
